Hello to my wonderful readers! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and enjoyed the holiday with friends and family! I want to apologize for the lack of posts these last few weeks, however, I am back and ready to work! This weeks post is all about transforming an outfit from day into night in a few simple steps! I hope you all enjoy this post and we shall talk soon!!
First, I would like to introduce my model for this week, Miss Paige Bolus. Paige is one of my good friends. She was so kind to allow me to feature her for this look. Paige describes her style as "edgy boho." My goal was to keep the outfits that I chose for this look as close to Paige’s personal style as I could. I decided to go with a black romper from Tobi, a red and white plaid shirt from Urban Outfitters, black lace tights from Forever 21, a black beanie from H&M and black combat boots from Steve Madden for the daytime look. Since Paige and I both live in New York City, street style is very popular. It’s making a big impact in the fashion world as well. The motto people like to use these days when describing New York City street style is, "Black is the new black". My goal was to put Paige in an outfit that was both trendy and easy to transition into evening wear. During most hectic days, we don’t have time to go home and change into a new outfit, all while trying to make it to a dinner reservation on time! This look is one of the easiest ways to eliminate the hassle of having to put together a whole new outfit and it allows you a bit more time to beat the rush hour crowd on the 1 train into Midtown.
When I have a busy day ahead of me, I like to pick basic pieces to wear and add accessories in order to make the outfit appropriate for my daytime activities. Paige was in the city for the day and I chose to put her in this black romper. Rompers are great this time of year because they are very comfortable and can be paired with tights to either dress it up or dress it down. I stuck to Paige’s edgy style and chose to put these lace tights underneath the romper. I was trying to achieve a “punk” look, but instead of taking a pair of black tights and ripping them I chose to use these black lace tights. In my opinion, the lace tights give the outfit a cleaner and classier look yet still keeping an edgy and chic feel to it. The plaid shirt around her waist acts as a playful rendition of a belt. Paige has a small waist and by tying the shirt around her waist it accentuates her curves. If you prefer, this shirt can be worn over the romper and a belt could be worn around the waist. Wearing combat boots instead of knee high boots or even flats keeps this outfit looking edgy and grunge. In my opinion, the beanie was a must!!! It tied the whole outfit together. Beanies are one of my favorite accessories for winter. Stores like Brandy Melville and RichSoil have fun beanies with corky words and sayings on them. Paige was pleased with this outfit and said she will definitely wear this look more often during the day.
Since I put Paige in a very basic black romper, and only used accessories to jazz up the look, it made transitioning into evening wear extremely easy. I swapped out the paid shirt for a faux fur vest from Urban Outfitters, and the Steve Madden combat boots for Steve Madden beige wedges. We ditched the beanie and added a gold and cream necklace for the evening look. Adding a necklace to an evening outfit is a good idea, especially if you’re in a hurry. The cream and gold necklace added some shimmer and sparkle. This transition look took about a minute and a half and Paige was out the door ready for her date. The fur vest is very boho and these faux fur vests have been in trend for the past two seasons. I don’t see it coming to and end anytime soon. I matched the Steve Madden suede wedges to one of the many different shades of beige in the fur vest. Matching these two pieces adds cohesion to the outfit and makes the colors blend and mesh nicely.
I like to buy clothes that I know will have multiple purposes in my everyday life. I rarely buy things that I know I will only wear once and then be shoved to the back of my closet. What makes a true fashionista is having the ability to wear clothes over and over again and make them look brand new every time they are worn. This black romper was transformed from an everyday outfit to a show-stopping garment in under two minutes. When you go shopping make sure you have your thinking cap on and buy clothes that you know you will be able to wear again.
Many people tell me that they never see me wear the same outfit twice, well that may very well be true however I most definitely wear articles of clothing over again. The method to my madness is taking ordinary things and making them extraordinary. Add a pair of colored tights or a fur vest to the same dress and I guarantee that dress will feel like a whole different, new, and improved garment.
Next time you have a busy day ahead of you DON’T panic…take your time and choose a simple outfit that is easy to transition from day into night. Choose your accessories wisely! This will make it easy to strip off a few daytime accessories and throw on some evening glam for your night out.
